Frequently Asked Questions

Is demolition dangerous?
Yes and no. It is extremely dangerous if and when individuals do not think about what they are doing and take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety. BUT it is safe in our hands because we take the steps to ensure safety.

Do you need a permit to demolish something?
Yes you need a permit from the municipality in which the work will be done. Krug Demolition handles the permit process. Part of that process is to become a registered demolition contractor in the city, town or village. In order to become a registered demolition contractor, companies need adequate insurance, bonding and to be part of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. These are all very important distinctions – that is why the municipality requires them. In other words, be sure your contractor is registered and can pull a permit.

How long have you been in business?
Krug Demolition was founded in 2005. Matthew Krug, the founder has been in the construction business in some capacity for over 20 years. He also owns a concrete recycling plant, Cuyahoga Materials Co., in downtown Cleveland.

What are the environmental standards for demolishing something in whole or in part?
In general, the environmental standards are to first provide an accurate history of the building in order to determine what materials could be found in and around the structure. The next step is to assess whether there are any environmentally hazardous in and around the building. The next step would be to remove those hazardous materials before any other work is performed. And finally, during the formal demolition process, the demolition contractor must stop dust, particulates and other debris from spreading outside the construction zone.

How much of the debris can be salvaged or recycled?
Much of what we tear out can be recycled and salvaged. The concrete, brick, block and steel can be easily taken to recycling yards and scrap yards. Moreover, new avenues are appearing every day to recycle materials and keep them out of landfills. For instance, there are now drywall and carpet recyclers. Krug Demolition works to keep these items out of landfills at all times.

Can't I just throw everything in the garbage?
No, you cannot throw everything in the garbage. There are several common household items which must be disposed of in an environmentally conscious manner. Televisions and computer monitors contain cathode ray tubes which are toxic to the environment. Fluorescent lights contain mercury which is a toxic chemical. Carpet has several chemicals in it which are horrible for humans. Don’t just throw things away. Contact Krug Demolition to take care of things the right way.
